San Andreas Regional Center

San Andreas Regional Center is a community-based, private nonprofit corporation that is funded by the State of California to serve people with developmental disabilities as required by the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Act. The Lanterman Act is part of California law that sets out the rights and responsibilities of persons with developmental disabilities. San Andreas is one of 21 Regional Centers throughout California serving individuals and their families who reside within Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz Counties.

SUMMER SAFETY INFORMATION
July 2, 2010

The staff of San Andreas Regional Center would like to share summer safety information with you. Summer activities can bring some risks to young children, those with a disability and the elderly. Please take care to prevent activities that could bring you harm.

San Andreas is also concerned about heat related injuries. Young children, those with severe disabilities, and the elderly can be vulnerable as the temperature rises, especially in enclosed spaces like the back seats of vans, etc.. Please be sure to take steps to keep your friends and family cool. Attached are flyers about how to prevent heat related injuries.

On behalf of San Andreas Regional Center we are sharing with you this Health Care Alert about Swine Flu:

This is a Health Care alert for families, vendors, and other people providing care for consumers. The outbreak of swine flu from Mexico has caused concern about a wider outbreak of this virus. There are several cases of swine flu in Southern California and a confirmed case in Sacramento. The current occurrence of swine flu is treatable. The consequences of the swine flu spreading could be very serious.

Consumers living in a group setting or attending day program may be more vulnerable to exposure to the swine flu virus.

If you provide care to a consumer please remember to follow these simple preventative measures:

This is a precautionary alert to urge people to be sure to follow some basic guidelines about themselves:

1. Use universal precautions by washing your hands frequently, using hand sanitizer, covering your coughs and sneezes, and taking other extra hygiene steps.

2. If you are sick (coughing, fever, lethargy, diarrhea, or other flu like symptoms) stay at home and see your doctor.

3. Take care in visiting people who are sick. If you do visit someone who is sick, use universal precautions.
